David is a Partner at New & Improved and President of Decision Labs where he has been doing real–time research and creative problem solving sessions to help political consultants, jury consultants, and companies in health care and high tech to develop better strategies. He has conducted powerful creative problem solving sessions to help companies refocus their corporate strategy, to develop new products, and to solve problems that seemed unsolvable.

In his retirement from his position as the Burlington Industries Professor of Business at the University of North Carolina he can be found teaching at Universities around the world, frequently on a Fulbright Fellowship. He has also been an associate professor at Cornell University, a visiting professor at UC Berkeley, Harvard, and Louvain (Belgium), and has lectured at Universities in Lancaster and Manchester, England; Vienna; and Argentina. His more than 75 articles that have appeared in the Journal of Marketing, the Journal of Marketing Research, the Journal of Business, Behavioral Sciences, the Journal of Public Economics, the Journal of Advertising Research, the Journal of Product Innovation and Management, The Executive, the Harvard Business Review, and proceedings of the American Marketing Association and the Association for Consumer Research. He has published seven books on marketing management, marketing research, and sales management.

In his spare time he may be found playing tennis, on a search and rescue mission, or sailing his MacGregor 26X called Expedition on lakes, the Atlantic Ocean, the Chesapeake, or the west coast of Florida.
